Gonder, Ethiopia

This is how they build in Ethiopia! Gonder has an amazing Royal Enclosure which houses a complex of 6 castles and numerous smaller buildings all built in the 17th and 18th centuries. It gave us a lovely relaxed afternoon's stroll in the heart of the busy town. Amazingly we were able to camp in the grounds of a garden cafe for a modest fee. Our cars backed on to a sheltered platform with tables and chairs, which we sequestered for our own use. So that's not actually us at a cafe but simply enjoying the ambience of our camping spot!

  1. Makes me feel quite notaligic. I came here with Olly - January 2007 - did you see Fasilides's poool where they celebrate Timkut?
