From Egypt into Sudan

It occurs to me that it might be interesting to post the border crossing from Egypt into Sudan. There is only one way in for tourists- that is the ferry from Aswan in Egypt to Wadi Halfa in Sudan. If you are a trucker there is a road but it's not a kosher way in to Sudan. The ferry usually runs once a week in either direction and takes about 18 hours, so it's an overnighter. We opted for first class which includes a cabin (non lockable and a meal.) The restaurant was a confidence inspiring kind of place, as of course were the toilets which I didn't photograph! We passed the temple at Abu Simbel in the morning as we sailed south. Magnificent. Once dismbarked at Wadi Hallfa we had to book ourselves into a hotel and wait for the arrival the following dayof the barge upon which the cars and a load of other stuff had been loaded. We went down in the morning to see the barge arrrive and then waited the whole day for the barge to be unloaded so we could drive the cars off. We only just managed to clear immigration at the docks before they knocked off! We sped out of town and camped in the desert some 30 - 40 km south of the town.
